Safety First
When crane operator, Jeff
Hill, lost his arm in a work
place accident; he vowed to
never place his own workers
at risk of injury because of
unsafe equipment.

When Hills Crane Trucks bought their first HIAB from BG Crane they
were so impressed with the performance and safety features that
they immediately ordered another HIAB to add to their fleet. After
losing my arm in an industrial accident due to faulty equipment,
I need to know that the equipment used by my team is of the best
standard and regularly maintained, says Owner Jeff Hill. We
have experienced a very rapid growth over the last few months, which
has kept
us extremely busy, he adds. Its times like these
that it is more important than ever our
equipment works efficiently and reliably. With a third HIAB
due to arrive in November, Hills currently run four trucks in the
fleet, including two HIAB XS 122-5 Duo, 12 tonne metre cranes.
With a focus on becoming one of the premier crane truck hire companies
in Victoria, Jeff adds superior equipment is a priority.
One thing that separates us from our competitors is our commitment
to service. Thats why we were so impressed with the high quality
of BG Cranes customer service, from sales advice through to
fitting the cranes and ongoing after sales support. Whenever
there is a problem, BG Crane fix it immediately, 24/7, whether it
is one of their HIAB cranes or an opposition brand.
Jeff adds that occupational health and safety issues are a high
priority for the company, which is why the operator protection system
(OPS) on the HIAB gives him peace of mind.
This feature gives my operators the safest available equipment
and added protection of knowing that we will not suffer a crush
injury from the boom of the crane. Unique to HIAB, the OPS
system features sensors on the booms to stop it from coming into
the working zone of the operator, preventing any accidents or fatalities.
This feature still allows the crane a full 360-degree turning circle,
while offering optimum operator protection.
Another feature of the HIAB is the Overload Protection System (OLP),
which prevents the crane from lifting a weight beyond its capacity,
preventing any damage that could be caused to the crane or truck.
I find the HIAB cranes are very easy for me to operate with
one arm, says Jeff, because I can use two functions
at the same time, giving me load movement with smooth operation
and complete control over the load. BG Crane Victorian Salesman,
Tim Veen, said that Hills Crane Trucks are expecting their third
unit later this year, the 30 tonne metre HIAB XS 288-E7 high duo
with 2 tonne winch and remote control.Tim says that BG Crane make
it a priority to employ their own staff, not subcontractors, for
all their fit ups and servicing, making sure that everything is
done in accordance to the Australian standards, including training.
With service vehicles and fully trained technicians, BG Crane says
their back up support is second to none. We honestly believe
that HIAB is the safest crane on the market, because of our unique
safety features, such as the Operator Protection System, Overload
Protection, Cross Rod Controls, and Automatic Leg Lock Valves.
